## What shifted on the site (Relay second pass)

The May 14 post covered **md2ast** and image-pipeline pain. This window added a **Relay-first origin strategy** to cut Vercel **function origin transfer (FOT)** and bandwidth: raster URLs route to **Relay mirrors**, **server-side Relay fetch and SSR** for article bodies were disabled, **Piper TTS** calls upstream directly, and legacy **`/files` proxy** paths were removed in favor of primary mirror hosts. **Search** and **I'm Feeling Lucky** came back **client-side** via merged index from Relay mirrors — the API routes that used to hit the server now tell the browser to use `/search` in-app.

Reader-visible effects: article pages still load through the Next shell, but markdown and images often resolve from **mirror hostnames**; the old site-wide migration banner is gone — **chat pause** copy moved into the **ChatRoom overlay** and footer nav so article reading is not framed as perpetual outage. Playwright suites (`relay-assets`, `relay-transition-prod`, `article-images`) were hardened for **client-rendered markdown**, subdomain mirror URLs, and gallery stacking above the header. **ChangeLog** viewer gained `openGallery` on the image context. If search felt "API disabled" mid-May, that was this transition; browser search should work again.
